Vikings: War of Clans Guide
Vikings: War of Clans is a popular online strategy game released back in 2015. The MMO is available to players on Android, iOS, and web browser. Since its launch, it’s gone on to find critical and commercial success, attracting a wide player base and generally positive reviews. Newcomers to the game will find a thriving community of players, as well as lots of content to get stuck into. Because of the depth of the game and how established it is, it can sometimes be tough getting up to speed with everything. That’s why we’ve written this Vikings: War of Clans guide.
Vikings: War of Clans Guide – The Basics
Whether you’ve played this kind of game before or not, the core mechanics and objectives are fairly easy to grasp. The game sees players join a kingdom with other players. From here, they must construct a clan. These clans can range from a few players to dozens, and each has its own hierarchy. Players within this hierarchy each have different roles and responsibilities.
Once you’ve established your clan, you’ll want to try and capture the Place of Power, the very centre of the kingdom. Clans will vie for power as they collect resources, build armies, and upgrade their heroes in an effort to make their clan more powerful.
Vikings: War of Clans is a fun game that keeps players coming back for more. Fans of the fantasy genre, as well as those who like building sims and competitive games will find a lot to enjoy here. Although the game is free to play, there are microtransactions, which some players criticise for making the game pay to win.
Vikings: War of Clans Guide – Resources
Perhaps the most important part of the game is resource collection and management. There are several resources in the game, and you’ll need a combination of all of them to succeed. Some are used for buildings, while others are used for levelling up your hero or recruiting units for your army.
There are resource spots across the game map in randomly generated places. You have to conquer them to gather resources for your town, and each spot has a level between 1 and 6. The higher the level, the better quality resources and the quicker they generate. Here are the key resources and where to find them:
- Food. Generated on Farmlands.
- Lumber. Generated at the Lumberjack’s Shed.
- Stone. Generated at the Hewer’s Camp.
- Iron. Found and generated at Iron Deposits.
- Silver. Generated at the Silver Alter.
- Gold. Generated at Gold Fields.
There are also special resources that appear after the fortnightly Kingdoms Battle event, a PVP event that lasts for 72 hours. Here are the resource prizes available:
- Gold of Gods. The winning Kingdom gets these for five days after the event.
- Level 8 resources. The 2nd place Kingdom has these randomly appear across the map.
- Level 9 resources. The 1st place Kingdom has these randomly appear across the map.
The amount of resources and the speed at which you can collect them can be boosted by completing special events, through the knowledge skill, and through hero skills.
Vikings: War of Clans Guide – Buildings and Troops
In the game, one of your primary goals is supporting the overall success of the clan. To do so, you’ll need to develop a town to provide troops and resources. In the town, you can build, upgrade and demolish buildings, each of which provides certain abilities.
There are many different types of buildings available – around 23 in total. Each has its own unique set of features. We’ve outlined some of the main ones below:
- Barracks. The only way to train troops (other than buying them). One of the most important buildings in the game. Each time you upgrade it, you can have more troops. You’ll want to continually be training warriors using this building.
- Farm. Farms provide food, which is necessary for training troops, upgrading buildings, and learning new knowledge.
- Forge. Here, you can create equipment for your hero. By processing materials, you can upgrade various aspects of your hero and your town.
- Mine. The mine is needed to create troops, heal existing units, upgrade buildings, and learn knowledge. It’s closely linked to the forge.
As you can see, many of the buildings tie closely together and are used to support your troops. There are several types of warriors available in the game. Each of these has a level, and this level corresponds to how much food they consume per hour. For example, a level 2 troop consumes 2 food per hour.
The game features many different kinds of troops, across melee, cavalry, ranged, killer, siege and scout units. Each has their own set of stats in attack and defence, and you’ll have to balance both if you’re to be successful.
Vikings: War of Clans Guide – Heroes
Each player gets their very own hero, a powerful unit that’s at the heart of all you do. Heroes gain experience as you fight battles, complete quests, and more. As you level up, you’ll earn skill points that you can spend on a variety of skills. You’ll also get Hero Gear, which is equipment to make your hero more powerful. Finally, you’ll also gain influence and gold for levelling up.
There are 70 levels in total, and the experience points you need to level up increases as you climb the levels. As you can imagine, this means that it takes longer and longer to level up. Only the most dedicated players reach level 70.
Heroes get an array of skills throughout the game. Each of these benefits the running of your town and clan in some way. For example, some give increases to building and learning skills, while other improve attack and defence power. Ideally, you should focus on a balance of these skills.
