Let's talk CS:GO. An Idiot reviews a game.

So, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, [here on Bananatic] - why should you buy it?

Starting out life as a mod for Half-Life sounds a bit strange, doesn't it? How do you get from shooting extra-dimensional beings know as the Xen, to a tactical team-shooter between Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. Well, I can't answer that question, but I can tell you that you should get the most recent instalment, 2012's CS:GO.

The game-play is great, as the game pits you against 5 other players in a competitive environment, where, the only way to get a weapon other than the Glock-18 you're given at the start of every game, is to win rounds, kill enemy players, and play objectively.

So, the game essentially tells you "Play good now, or you won't be able to later.". In a competitive setting, this is good, as you will always be challenged by the other players, who are skill-matched to you.

With an array of maps and modes to choose from, you're spoilt for choice, even when you don't factor in community-made game-modes you can access through servers run by other players in the in-built server browser!

Since I'm only wanting to talk about the game-play aspects of the game here, I won't spend long on this subject, but skins! Everyone likes skins. They let you customise your weapons (and gloves), but if you want the good skins, like a Factory New M4A4 Asiimov or a AWP Medusa, then you'd best be ready to smash open the piggy-bank for some steam wallet cards, 'cause those skins don't come cheap as they are sought after in the trading community and with players wanting to look there best on the small battlefields, you can bet that people will be picking up your weapon for more than just gun.

Back to the game-play! Sure, you need to remember loads of different call-outs if you want to stay ahead, but it is worth it! You can meet a lot of different kinds of people with a lot of different strategies, some like to play the slow-game, waiting for the enemy to come to them, while they set up an ambush, others prefer to scream "RUSH B!!" and rush head-first into the enemy team.

So, in short, I 100% recommend this game, with it's fast-paced, team based shooter action, it's tactical aspect, and the great community (if you're on the right side of competitive!). It can also run on a lot of PCs and laptops, I don't really have any specs I would be proud of (I'm stuck with a Intel HD Graphics 500 Mobile for Christ's sake!), so if you know your PC or laptop can run a game like Half-Life 2, you know it can probably run CS:GO!
