How 2 Demoman(beginners guide)
Do you like explosions? If you do then look no further than Demoman. His name says everything. He is the Demoman, he demolishes. Demolish is a Scottish guy who loves two things, Alchohol and Explosions. He is categorized as a defence class by the game. Just like heavy, Demoman is best for area denial. Demoman can set traps with his sticky bomb launcher. Most of you probably have seen this in the meet the Demoman cinematic made officially by valve. Demoman is a projectile-based class with no hitscan weapons in his arsenal. He has a decent health pool of 175 hit points. He is also decently fast. His speed and his hit points can vary according to his arsenal. Demoman is a very versatile class. Because of his versatility, he also has many subclasses. His subclasses are demo knight, hybrid demo knight, the trapper and the spammer. Most of these are complex and can't be explained in a single article. The demo knight players are mostly equipped with a shield, a good melee weapon and boots. They don't use any ranged weapons and they only depend on melees. These players are skilled and a force to be reckoned with. The hybrid demo knights are almost the same. Hybrid demo knights have at least one ranged weapon. They don't use boots or sometimes don't use shields. The hybrid demo knights can be defined as players who are yet to master the art of demo knights. The trappers are players who set traps all over the map. If you are playing against these then you won't know when you are going to explode. These players use the Scottish resistance or either stick to the default sticky bomb launcher. Lastly, the spammer is just like a normal Demoman player. These players usually tend to spam their grenades everywhere. Most of these forget that they have traps for area denial. They don't use traps and only depend on their primary launcher. These players depend on their luck since they don't have much knowledge about projectiles. The spammer is still a very fun playstyle to adopt.
Let's talk about the Demoman's loadout. His default loadout consists of his grenade launcher, sticky-bomb launcher, and his bottle. Talking about his primary grenade launcher, I have nothing bad to say about this weapon. It is projectile based and it deals a lot of damage. It bounces and rolls after touching the ground and instantly explodes if it touches the enemy hitbox. It can also damage you. This weapon is really good and doesn't need any replacements. I won't be talking about replacements for any of his weapons because this will lead to a completely different playstyle. My goal is to focus on newer players who probably haven't obtained these unlockables yet. His secondary is the sticky-bomb launcher. It works just how it sounds. It launches sticky bombs which explode when the player presses the alt-fire button. This can also be used to travel huge distances by exploding yourself. Lastly, their melee weapon of Demoman is the bottle. It deals decent damage and has overall decent stats. I would highly suggest replacing it with something like Eyelander even if you are a new player. If you haven't unlocked any of the alternatives then you can stick with it.
Since we have covered his loadout let's talk about things to acknowledge while playing as Demoman. Most of the Demoman explosives and sticky bombs can damage you so don't try to pick up close-range fights with other classes. Demoman is the best for dealing with hordes of enemies. His high damage output can finish many enemies in a few seconds. Demoman is best suited for payload maps. Demoman is also good at dealing with engineers' buildings since he can destroy sentry guns from a longer range. As a Demoman, you can set traps near the enemy spawn to finish them before they can reach the enemy frontlines. Even though Demoman is categorized as a defensive class he is best suited for the frontlines. Heavy, scouts and pyros can demolish you if you get too close to them. You can also include movement techniques like sticky jumping in your games to move around much quicker and be more effective. You can set traps near the control point or other objectives so that your enemies can run into them and die. Your explosives also knock your enemies farther so this can help deal with close-ranged enemies.
